The “Basilica della Madonna dell’Umiltà” is a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Pistoia, whose construction is supposed between the twelfth and eighth centuries.
Its architectural importance is due to the sixteenth-century dome built by Giorgio Vasari and 59 meters high, which presented immediately stability problems, so that in the centuries various consolidation works there were.
With the current restoration project, the permanent control of structural conditions of the dome and of the existing and planned metal hoops devices was provided. Load cells, displacement transducers, wire extensometers, strain gauges, accelerometers and sensors of temperature and relative humidity compose it.
